Katie Giles
Biography[edit]
Katie-Louise Giles is a third year English student who has veered horrendously off course into the arms of PA. Which is strange, as she started her university career thinking she was honestly going to get some work done and read a lot of fun books. She can often be found in the company of Ben Walker, and their more or less joining at the hip has earned them more than a few funny looks in the past.
Having started her PA career pretending to be both a French woman and an easily distracted factory worker in ComedySoc's 2014 "acid trip" of a show The Case of the Film Genre Killer, Katie then had her post-show blues exploited by her fellow cast member Joe Hand, who was directing H.M.S. Pinafore 2015 at the time. Joe's heartless pragmatism (he needed more altos for the Sisters, Cousins and Aunts chorus) paid off, as she went on to be the world's most cult-orientated fresher possible when she boarded H.M.S Pinafore in February 2015. She was seduced by the opportunity to be a Victorian lady, bob and repeat her status endlessly, even going as far as to buy the DVD of LOpSoc's performance of Pirates of Penzance 2014 - a show which happened before she even came to university and thus she wasn't even in. In her words, "It's still a good show, who cares". Such commitment to the society earned her the title of LOpSoc's "Biggest Fan", a title which can now only be relinquished in the event of her death in a duel with another worthy foe.
In August 2015,to rectify the grievous error of not joining for its original run, she joined the Fairy Chorus for the 2015 Harrogate run of Iolanthe, becoming a punk rock fairy who doesn't play by the rules (unless the Fairy King tells her to). She then threw herself fully into the role of Shaindel and also Grumpiest Yiddish Peasant in the Land in LOpSoc's 2016 show, Fiddler on the Roof 2016. She is uncertain of how she managed to convince the prod team that she is a natural mother, with the baby face that she has. (She is not complaining, she will do anything for more attention). To be honest, she only joined to get a chance to club Ben into the dust, the honour bestowed on Barnaby Wilson.
Next, she went back to her roots as a swooning, sighing Victorian as Cardboard Cutout Contadine-I mean,Giulia in LOpSoc's summer show, Gondoliers 2016, fawning over poor unfortunate Philip Needle. He really doesn't deserve this psychological scarring, especially not in his first show, but is going to get it anyway, because Joe Hand and Owen Perring say so. She then went on to terrorize a new Giorgio in the form of Jamie Hizzett and became a hybrid of Vittoria and Giulia in the Harrogate run of Gondoliers 2016 (Harrogate).
She rejoined the chorus for The Mikado 2017, even woefully without a fan due to directorial naysaying. She has clearly created a reputation. She then realised that the soprano life was clearly too strong to resist, as she never quite left after Gondoliers. She continues to betray what was once her people by remaining in the soprano chorus in Half A Sixpence 2017 as well as taking on the role of Gwendoline, the worst maid in the world. Around the same time, she decided that after three years of being inseparable, and a year of living in the same house, that Ben Walker really isn't so bad, and hence broke the fresher legend surrounding them forever. Poor boy. Continuing the soprano life, she did the truly not-soprano thing of taking a role with no singing part, to play Lily in the Harrogate run of The Mikado 2017 (Harrogate), the child with the grumpiest face and the heart of stone. Can't have people thinking she's too mushy.
Despite then graduating from the university, and having a way out of this madness and into a masters, she instead chose to come back to be part of the chorus for Ruddygore 2018 while still doing a masters in a different university. Her most recent foray into the LOpSoc abyss is as the Lady Ella in Patience 2018, undoing all her good work as Lily by being a ball of emotions for those good handsome boys.

Major Achievements[edit]
- Has managed to convince more or less everybody in every show she's been in that she's dating Ben Walker. She isn't, and never has been.
- Was responsible for the psychological destruction of Joe Hand at the 2015 Bunfight.
- Produced enough static electricity with one hand fan during the run of HMS Pinafore to power all university buildings on Highfield for three days.
- Best damn cake maker in the business.
- Infiltrating the sopranos for the alto revolution
- Harbours a great love for William Shakespeare and Diet Coke - in fact, she likes this combination more than anyone else in the world.
- Dragged Amber Courage into the cult with promises of singing and insanity.
