Rhona is a final year languages student studying German and Spanish. Born in England, raised in Wales, she attempted to make up for lost Englishness by joining LOpSoc in 2014, during her first year. Her first show was Iolanthe 2015, and she remained on board for H.M.S. Pinafore 2015, in which her "prim but slutty vodka aunt" was certainly a unique interpretation.

It was during this production run that she first suggested the idea of the now ubiquitous LOpSoc Naked Charity Calendar, which led to Rhona becoming the youngest ever LOpSoc member to have a meme made from them. The production run also saw the appearance of the famous "Rhona bitch face", which has been known to destroy the minds of lesser men. Rhona returned to her raptor fairy in Iolanthe 2015 (Harrogate), causing several pensioners to congratulate her after the show for such a wonderful performance in Jurassic Park.

Rhona was the wardrobe manager for LOpSoc's production of Fiddler on the Roof 2016, which fulfilled her childhood dream of dressing people up like Yiddish peasant doll people and forcing them to re-enact Russian pogroms. Needless to say, everyone enjoyed the range of brown clothing, particularly Ben Walker, whose closing comment was "Thank you for making me so beige." She also thinks that the show's subplot about potatoes really deserved more attention, but then, this is why she isn't a director.

Rhona's took on her first principal role (other than the extremely important Woman 1 role in Fiddler on the Roof 2016) as The Duchess of Plaza Toro in Gondoliers 2016, along with Venetia Matthews. She did 3 of the Annexe perfomances, and very much hopes that everyone who watches the show watches the Harrogate version, as her counterpart did a much better job of it.

She also managed to join the chorus for the Plaza-Tour, and is still amazed that she managed to spend the entire opening song in the front row without messing up.

Rhona spent her third year as an Erasmus student in Spain, where she considered herself as an 'absent but overly invested' member, travelling all the way just to see Mikado 2017. She also started the second LOpSoc Against Humanity deck, as a way of trying to stay in with all the fresh memes. She joined LOpSoc again for Mikado 2017 (Harrogate).

In her final year, she performed the role of Ruth in Ruddygore 2018, joined the committee as tours officer, and took on the role of Creative Director for LOpSoc's first performance of Patience. Her dream of the LOpSoc Naked Charity Calendar was also realised, when Hannah Parsons corralled a group of shameless members to take part in the SUSU RAG calendar.

Rhona's took on her first principal role (other than the extremely important Woman 1 role in Fiddler on the Roof 2016) of The Duchess of Plaza Toro in Gondoliers 2016, along with Venetia Matthews.

LOpSoc brings to the Nuffield Theatre a fresh and unique production of “The Mikado”, one of the most loved and best lasting Gilbert & Sullivan operettas. With a new aesthetic twist and setting, witty libretto and gorgeous music, this is a production to please newcomers and G&S fans alike.

Gilbert found all of the reference material he needed within a mile of his own home in South Kensington. From the Japanese Village in Knightsbridge, a male dancer and a tea-girl were permitted to give their services to the Savoy management. The dancer was not only polite and refined, but also an accomplished linguist. The tea-girl was responsible for teaching the ladies Japanese deportment: how to walk, run or dance in as tiny and graceful steps as possible, and how to spread and snap the fan to express different emotions.

Therefore, the original production portrayed an exaggerated, yet somehow faithful, image of Japan from an English perspective at that time. In present day, the operetta has sometimes been considered to play too much on stereotypes. However, Gilbert \& Sullivan's intention was only to seek in an exotic setting an opportunity to build a clever and fun critique of their very own English politics and society.

From its inception The Mikado has been heavily based in pure imagination, as Gilbert had never been to Japan himself. It is exactly there where we set our version of this story: in an imaginary world. Already in the overture we meet Wendy, James and Peter, three friends who are folding origami together. They soon start to name their toys and create a world and story for each one of them - the story of The Mikado. As the plot progresses we also learn more about each child's personality; of Wendy's sensitivity and romantic view of the world, Peter's wit and playfulness, and James' stubbornness and sometimes overbearing attitude.

The tale begins when the three children decide to fold origami figures. They play with their creations, naming each one and imagining a story for them. However they don't always agree on the course of the plot...

Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado, fled the imperial court to escape marriage with Katisha. Disguised, he falls in love with Yum-Yum, who is already betrothed to her guardian Ko-Ko, the soft-hearted Lord High Executioner of Titipu. Nanki-Poo is devastated, but in a secret meeting with Yum-Yum he confesses his love, revealing his true identity and the reason why he ran away. Meanwhile, the Mikado sends a letter demanding that an execution is carried out within a month, otherwise Titipu will lose its privileges. Ko-Ko comes up with an ingenious plan after finding out that Nanki-Poo, in his heart-broken misery, has decided to commit suicide. Since he is decided to die, Nanki-Poo should volunteer to be publicly executed instead, thus solving the issue of how to fulfil the Emperor's order. In exchange, Nanki-Poo and Yum-Yum can be married for a month prior to his execution. However, Katisha discovers Nanki-Poo's whereabouts, and is not at all willing to let him go... Intersecting love triangles, political intrigue, disguised identities and origami meet in Titipu.
Needless to say, everyone enjoyed the range of brown clothing, particularly Ben Walker, whose closing comment was "Thank you for making me so beige." She also thinks that the show's subplot about potatoes really deserved more attention, but then, this is why she isn't a director.

Rhona's took on her first principal role (other than the extremely important Woman 1 role in Fiddler on the Roof 2016) of The Duchess of Plaza Toro in Gondoliers 2016, along with Venetia Matthews.

Rhona returned to her raptor fairy in Iolanthe 2015 (Harrogate), causing several pensioners to congratulate her after the show for such a wonderful performance in Jurassic Park.

Rhona's took on her first principal role (other than the extremely important Woman 1 role in Fiddler on the Roof 2016) of The Duchess of Plaza Toro in Gondoliers 2016, along with Venetia Matthews.

Rhona is a final year languages student studying German and Spanish. Born in England, raised in Wales, she attempted to make up for lost Englishness by joining LOpSoc in 2014, during her first year. Her first show was Iolanthe 2015, and she remained on board for H.M.S Pinafore 2015, in which her "prim but slutty vodka aunt" was certainly a unique interpretation.

Rhona's took on her first principal role (other than the extremely important Woman 1 role in Fiddler on the Roof 2016) of The Duchess of Plaza Toro in Gondoliers 2016, along with Venetia Matthews.

She boarded the HMS Pinafore in February 2015 to take part in her second show, mucking around in the chorus once again. She formed a strong working relationship with Katie Giles in both version of her character, the Vodka Aunt (for which she received the Order of Lenin from a grateful Vladimir Putin) and in her words "the prim but slutty aunt". Rhona is currently spending her third year as an Erasmus student in Oviedo, in the north of Spain, attending classes in Spanish linguistics and German language and writing (or not writing as the case may be) a research project about the sociolinguistic situation of the local minority language and how its position may influence attitudes towards it. This is a lot less impressive than it (possibly) sounds. During this year, Rhona likes to think of herself as an 'absent but overly invested' member, and has already travelled all the way from Spain just to see Mikado 2017. Phil is a first year History student who joined LOpSoc on their pursuit for more men, led by Jamie Hizzett. His first show was Gondoliers 2016 where he fell desperately in love with Katie 'Guilia' Giles and married her. The sheer amount of PDA is sickening.

Rhona is a third year languages student studying German and Spanish. Born in England, raised in Wales, she attempted to make up for lost Englishness by joining LOpSoc in 2014, during her first year. Her first show was the Southampton run of Iolanthe, during which the UV for the dramatic scenes had the same effect as a tanning booth, rendering her skin a crispy golden brown.

Rhona returned to her raptor fairy ways in the Harrogate production of Iolanthe, causing several pensioners to congratulate her after the show for such a wonderful performance in Jurassic Park.

Rhona's took on her first principal role (other than the extremely important Woman 1 role in Fiddler on the Roof 2016) of The Duchess of Plaza Toro in Gondoliers 2016, along with Venetia Matthews.

She also started the second LOpSoc Against Humanity deck, as a way of trying to stay in with all the fresh memes.

She fully intends to rejoin LOpSoc for the Harrogate performance of The Mikado.
"The Gondoliers" was LOpSoc's 2016 Summer Show, and was also performed at the International G&S Festival on August 17th in Harrogate. Four of our cast members have been nominated for the UniFest 2016 Awards: Sophie Brant (best character actress), Billy Boulton (best character actor), Barnaby Wilson (best character actor) and Amber Courage (best costumes).

Marco and Giuseppe are two merry republican Venetian gondoliers, recently engaged to Gianetta and Tessa. What is their surprise when, right after their wedding, the Spanish inquisitor Don Alhambra shows up and reveals that one of them is no other than the King of Barataria!

The inquisitor stole the baby prince from Barataria many years ago and brought him to be raised by a gondolier in Venice. Said gondolier died when Marco and Giuseppe were younger, and now the only person who can identify the true King is Inez, the lady who nursed the royal baby back in Barataria. Now with the death of the former King, it is imperative that Marco and Giuseppe leave immediately and assume the throne as one individual. There is only one little problem: ladies are not allowed in the court of Barataria, and so Gianetta and Tessa must remain in Venice...

That, in fact, is just an excuse made up by Don Alhambra. The truth is, the prince of Barataria was married in infancy to Casilda, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Plaza-Toro. Casilda herself didn't know about her husband, and is desolate when her parents tell her the truth. She is secretly in love with Luiz, her father's servant, and now her dreams seem more impossible than ever before...

Are the gondoliers going to succeed in bringing their republican ideals to Barataria? What will happen when Gianetta and Tessa find out that either Marco or Giuseppe was already married to Casilda? Will the Plaza-Toros regain their status and fortune? Will Don Alhambra find Inez and finally solve this confusion?

Love, gondolas, political ideals, mistaken identities and all the classic G&S plot tweaks and twists meet in Harrogate this Summer!

Iolanthe was performed by LOpSoc in August 2015 at the 22nd International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival, following its successful run in Southampton earlier in 2015.

One of LOpSoc's more radical productions, this was a modernisation of the G&S operetta, updated to 1982 and gender-swapped.

The production followed the success of Pirates of Penzance 2014 (Harrogate), Iolanthe went on to win 3 awards: Best Director, Best Costumes and Best Character Actress.
